We defined 10 categories of action for analysis of user's behavior on the web.
We used the categories to investigate user's behavior and cognitive process during interactive search on the web.
The following is a result using the categories. For more information, please see Terai et. all[IIiX2008].
This table lists the average number of actions in all categories for the report-writing and trip-planning tasks.
A T-test was conducted with the two task types.
There were significant differences between the two tasks in Link and Close behaviors. In the trip-planning task, the participants clicked on page links and closed tabs on the web browser more than in the report-writing task. Moreover, there was a slightly significant difference in Browsing behavior. These browsed more search-results pages in the report-writing task than in the trip-planning task.
These mean that in the report-writing task, they examined Web pages closely, and in the trip-planning task, they selected Web pages rapidly.
