We defined 10 categories of action for analyzing of user's behavior on the web.
We used these categories to investigate user's behavior and cognitive processes during interactive searches on the web.
The following is a result using the above categories. For more information, please see Terai et al.[IIiX2008]
This table lists the average number of actions in all categories for the report-writing and trip-planning tasks.
A T-test was conducted for the two task types.
There were significant differences between the two tasks in link and close behaviors. In the trip-planning task, the participants clicked on page links and closed tabs on the web browser more often than in the report-writing task. Moreover, there was a slightly significant difference in browsing behavior. Participants browsed more search-results pages in the report-writing task than in the trip-planning task.
These results mean that in the report-writing task, participants examined Web pages closely, while in the trip-planning task, they selected Web pages rapidly.
